Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Most of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we ought to keep away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to eat. There are some foods that, when you consume them, could better your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, you may be amazed to learn, are terrific at battling depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you raise your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Eat an egg and be happy!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all good for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a great protein source.

Cold water fish are good if you wish to feel happier. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

Grains can be excellent for driving away a terrible mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all great for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full also which can actually help to make your mood better. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were simply anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try these hints instead!
