Use Food to Elevate Your Mood

Many of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, could boost your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Consume an egg and cheer up!

Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein food source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you want to feel happier. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.

Grains can be good for driving away a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. It’s not difficult to feel low when you are starving! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s easy for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is truly good for your mood. You were just waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you be healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
