Foods That Make You Happy

For the most part, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be super healthy and good for you. There are several foods that, when you consume them, may improve your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, you may be amazed to find out, are great at combating depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Try consuming some eggs to cheer up!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a great protein source.

If you would like to overcome depression, try eating some cold water fish. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.

It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all great for helping you feel better. They help you feel full also which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling famished can be terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy for your body to digest. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while simultaneously loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become better. Now you know it can help you be happier as well!

So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you wish to feel better! Try these hints instead!
