Information on How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

In general, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. Some foods really do raise your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at beating back depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you improve your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Consume an egg and jolly up!

Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Nuts, in addition to raising your mood, can be a great protein source.

Cold water fish are great if you wish to be in a better mood. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

Some grains are actually excellent for repelling bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be better. Now you are aware that green tea can help improve your mood as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
