Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood

Most of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we should stay away from them. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are several foods that actually can boost your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at fighting back depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you improve your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Eat a couple of eggs to jolly up!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Nuts, along with elevating your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you are wanting to fight depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.

It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are fantastic at helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer also, helping you feel better. It’s not hard to feel low when you feel famished! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these grains more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. Now you are well aware that it helps you to elevate your moods as well!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try these tips instead!
