Use Food to Elevate Your Mood
Many of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we have to stay away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be super nourishing and good for you. A number of foods actually do improve your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at fighting back depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Eat a few eggs to feel better!
Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Not just that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein source.
If you wish to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.
It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are terrific at helping you feel happier. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you know that it helps you to elevate your moods also!
So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try several of these instead!
