Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood

A lot of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is very true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that really can raise your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at dealing with depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for raising your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Eat an egg and feel better!

Make a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all good for elevating your mood. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to feel better. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.

Grains can be great for fighting a terrible mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can really help to make your mood better. Feeling famished can be terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest these grains more quickly than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is really good for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try some of these instead!
