Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

Many of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that, when you eat them, could boost your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you battle depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Eat an egg and jolly up!

Make a trail mixout of various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all good for raising your mood. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a fantastic source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to combat depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

Grains can be good for overcoming a bad mood. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full too which can really help to better your mood. Feeling starved can actually bring you down! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your sugar levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel so much healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood also!

You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try some of these suggestions instead.
