This is the kind meal your mom spoils you with when you visit. Matoke (or Matooke) refer to the plantain or plantain banana in Uganda, where plantains are a staple crop. In Uganda, plantain bananas are often wrapped in plantain leaves and steamed until tender. Continue frying and stirring until the meat is nearly done or until the broth is starting to boil. How to Elevate Your Mood with Food
For the most part, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. Some foods honestly do boost your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly wonderful at dealing with depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the yolk. Every time you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are great for helping to boost your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Eat an egg and be happy!
Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are great if you want to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.
Some grains are actually great for repelling bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. They can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling hungry can be awful! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were simply waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know it can help raise your mood also!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
