Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super nourishing and good for you. There are a number of foods that really can improve your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to learn, are great at fighting depression. You must see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Make a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all great for raising your mood. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.

Some grains are actually wonderful for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are excellent at helping you feel better. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. Feeling famished can be terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest them faster than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously calming your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel better. Now you know that it helps you to lift your moods also!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Test out these suggestions instead!
