Foods That Make You Happy

Most of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we must avoid them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. Several foods really do elevate your mood when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at fighting back depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk especially, are stuffed full of B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to improve your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try eating a couple of eggs to jolly up!

Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.

If you want to fight depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.

It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods as well. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard to digest. You digest them more quickly than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You were just expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood also!

So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Try these hints instead!
