Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood
Most of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we must avoid them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are some foods that actually can boost your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really terrific at beating back depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–function better. Eat an egg and cheer up!
Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.
If you would like to overcome depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.
Grains can be great for overcoming a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full as well which can really help to make your mood better. It’s not hard to feel depressed when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood glucose which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were just expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that it helps you to elevate your moods as well!
So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
