Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood

Most of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are several foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to learn, are fantastic at fighting depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that control your mood. Eat a few eggs to feel better!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you are wanting to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.

Some grains are actually great for fighting off bad moods. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. It’s not hard to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that it helps you to lift your moods as well!

As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
