Foods That Make You Happy

A lot of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we have to stay away from them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to consume. Several foods actually do boost your mood when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the egg yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can truly help you raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Consume an egg and feel happier!

Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that tells the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to raising your mood, can be a great protein source.

If you want to overcome depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

Grains can be wonderful for fighting a bad mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all great for helping you feel happier. They can help you feel full for longer as well, which is a mood improver. Feeling hungry can really make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. You digest these foods faster than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is truly good for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a specific amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be better. Now you are well aware that it helps you to elevate your moods too!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Go with these suggestions instead!
