Foods That Can Make You Happy

Most of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we should stay away from them. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to eat. Several foods honestly do improve your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are great for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you boost your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Try consuming some eggs to feel better!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a great protein source.

Cold water fish are great if you want to feel better. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

It’s not hard to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly wonderful for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling starved can truly bring you down! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood sugar which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel so much healthier. And now you are aware that it can help you be happier also!

So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try some of these hints instead.
