How to Boost Your Mood with Food

Most of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be super nutritious and good for you. There are several foods that, when you eat them, may boost your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at beating back depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you boost your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Eat an egg and jolly up!

Make a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

If you want to overcome depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.

Grains can be wonderful for driving away a bad mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. They help you feel full also which can truly help to better your mood. Feeling hungry can be terrible! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood sugar which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood can truly be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
