Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better
Most of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we should stay away from them. Often, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. Some foods honestly do elevate your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. Just see to it that you do not throw out the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to raise your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!
Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.
Cold water fish are good if you would like to be in a better mood. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.
Some grains are really wonderful for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping increase your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling starved can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to lift your moods as well!
As you can see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try some of these suggestions instead.
