Use Food to Improve Your Mood
Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are some foods that basically can boost your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you fight depression. You should make sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. When you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Eat an egg and cheer up!
Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which raises your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a superb source of protein.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to fight depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.
It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full also which can really help to improve your mood. Feeling famished can actually bring you down! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you know that applies to your mood also!
As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Test out these tips instead!
