Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood
Many of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to eat. There are some foods that basically can improve your moods when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, you may be surprised to discover, are wonderful at combating depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try eating a couple of eggs to cheer up!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all great for elevating your mood. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin production. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.
Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to feel happier. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.
Some grains are truly wonderful for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. They help you feel full too which can truly help to make your mood better. Feeling famished can actually bring you down! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become better. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
