Foods That Make Your Mood Better
In general, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be extremely healthy and good for you. There are some foods that, when you consume them, could improve your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, you may be amazed to find out, are great at combating depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for elevating your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Consume an egg and jolly up!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a super protein source.
Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to combat depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
Grains can be excellent for fighting a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you feel better. They can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest. You digest these foods quicker than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this specific amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you are aware that it helps you to lift your moods as well!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a few of these hints instead.
