Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Many of us believe that comfort foods are not good for us and that we have to avoid them. At times, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be super nutritious and good for you. A number of foods really do improve your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out some of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to boost your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat a couple of eggs to jolly up!
Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic source of protein.
Cold water fish are great if you would like to be in a better mood. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
Some grains are really wonderful for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you feel happier. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. Feeling hungry can truly bring you down! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. You digest these grains faster than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is really great for your mood. You knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be better. Now you are aware that it can help improve your mood too!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
