Instructions to make Chicken Stir Fry:
  1. My grocery store sells these awesome stir fry vegetable kits, they come with teriyaki sauce but I prefer the stir fry sauce as it's not as sweet. You could also just purchase whatever fresh veggies you prefer if these kits aren't available, I just find them very convenient! This particular one contains broccoli, brussels sprouts, carrots, red cabbage, snow peas and kale.
  2. Cook chicken in a large wok or skillet in vegetable oil along with seasonings until thoroughly cooked. Add sesame oil right before chicken is cooked.
  3. Drain off any excess liquid and place in a large bowl; set aside.
  4. In the now clean wok, saute the onion and peppers in a little vegetable oil until slightly softened.
  5. Add in mushrooms and stir fry vegetables and continue to saute until tender.
  6. Add in stir fry sauce and sesame seeds and stir well to combine.
  7. Fold in chicken.
  8. Enjoy!

Discover How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Most of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that really can improve your moods when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at dealing with depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Eat an egg and be happy!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all helpful for elevating your mood. This is possible since these foods are high in magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a super source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you want to feel happier. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.

Grains can be good for fighting a terrible mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all good for helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. Feeling famished can really bring you down! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You were just anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!

So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Try several of these instead!
