Information on How to Boost Your Mood with Food

Many of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are not good and are to be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to consume. There are several foods that, when you eat them, may improve your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for boosting your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Eat an egg and jolly up!

Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel better. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full also which can really help to improve your mood. Feeling starved can actually bring you down! These grains can improve your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to lift your moods also!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
