Foods That Make Your Mood Better
In general, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be very nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can boost your mood. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at dealing with depression. Just be sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. When you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can genuinely help you improve your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try eating an egg and jolly up!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you will feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a superb source of protein.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to fight depression. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all full of omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.
Some grains are truly wonderful for repelling bad moods. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You just knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel better. Now you are well aware that it helps you to lift your moods too!
So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Test out these hints instead!
