Discover How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

In general, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very nourishing and good for you. A number of foods actually do raise your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you may be amazed to find out, are wonderful at battling depression. You should be sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, especially the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Consume an egg and jolly up!

Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, in particular, are a great source of protein.

If you would like to beat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously boost your mood.

It’s not difficult to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, helping you feel better. Feeling starved can truly make you feel awful! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea has been found to be chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to get healthy when you drink green tea. And now you know it can help raise your mood too!

You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you so you can feel better! Try several of these instead!
