Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood
A lot of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super healthy and good for you. There are several foods that actually can raise your moods when you consume them. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for boosting your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–function better. Try to eat an egg and feel a lot happier!
Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that directs your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more you have of it, the better you will feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to feel better. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you fight your depression.
It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you feel better. They help you feel full as well which can actually help to better your mood. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult to digest. You digest these grains faster than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood also!
You can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try several of these instead!
