Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Many of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we must keep away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that, when you consume them, may better your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, test out some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you fight depression. You need to make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Eat a few eggs to jolly up!
Put together a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all wonderful for raising your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic source of protein.
Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to combat depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fats and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly elevate your mood.
Some grains are actually great for fighting off bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are fantastic at helping you have a happier mood. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. Feeling famished can be awful! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You already knew that green tea helps you feel better. Now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood too!
So you see, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
