Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood
A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are not good and to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that really can raise your moods when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, you may be astonished to learn, are wonderful at battling depression. You must see to it, however, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to improve your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!
Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all helpful for improving your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which promotes serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you will feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific source of protein.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to combat depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3 and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly boost your mood.
Some grains are actually great for driving away bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you feel happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which can help your mood too. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is really excellent for your mood. You were just anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that that green tea helps you be better. Now you know that applies to your mood too!
Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
