Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood

For the most part, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to consume. Several foods really do improve your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try some of these.

Eggs, you may be amazed to find out, are fantastic at battling depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are stuffed full of B vitamins. B vitamins can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Eat an egg and feel better!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all great for raising your mood. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a super protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent for eating if you want to battle depression. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.

Some grains are actually great for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually wonderful for helping raise your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling hungry can really bring you down! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You were simply expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel better. Now you know that green tea helps you to lift your moods as well!

So you see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try a couple of of these hints instead.
