Turn to Food to Boost Your Mood

For the most part, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that, when you consume them, may improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at fighting back depression. You need to be sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Eat an egg and cheer up!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.

If you would like to beat depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are fantastic at helping you be happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling hungry can be a real downer! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Green tea is really good for your mood. You were just anticipating to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!

So you see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Go with these suggestions instead!
