Discover How to Boost Your Mood with Food
Many of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be very healthy and good for us to eat. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can better your mood. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional pick-me-up, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at dealing with depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk especially, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Consume an egg and jolly up!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which boosts serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a super source of protein.
Cold water fish are good if you are wanting to feel better. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight back depression.
Grains can be excellent for overcoming a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you feel happier. They help you feel full also which can actually help to better your mood. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Green tea is really good for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid promotes the production of brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to lift your moods too!
So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you want to feel better! Try these tips instead!
