Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Many of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are bad and are to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. At times, comfort foods can be very nourishing and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, can improve your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really wonderful at fighting back depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Eat an egg and feel better!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all helpful for raising your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.
Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly elevate your mood.
It’s not difficult to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can actually make you feel awful! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your sugar levels which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Research has proven that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier as well!
