Information on How to Elevate Your Mood with Food
Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are not good and should be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very nourishing and good for you. Some foods really do improve your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, try a few of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, especially the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Eat a couple of eggs to cheer up!
Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, in addition to bettering your mood, can be a superb protein source.
Cold water fish are great if you want to feel happier. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.
Some grains are really great for fighting off bad moods. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all great for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They help you feel full also which can really help to improve your mood. Feeling hungry can really make you feel terrible! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard for your body to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you become better. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood too!
Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
