Foods That Make You Happy
Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be super nourishing and good for you. There are several foods that really can raise your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are great for helping you combat depression. Just make sure that you do not throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, the yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Try consuming a few eggs to feel better!
Put together a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The higher your serotonin levels, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein food source.
If you would like to defeat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight depression.
Some grains are truly excellent for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. Feeling starved can be terrible! These grains can improve your mood as it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest these grains faster than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is fantastic for moods. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You knew that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you are aware that green tea can help improve your mood too!
As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Try a few of these hints instead.
