Foods That Can Make Your Mood Better

In general, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and should be avoided. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be extremely healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, can boost your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to find out, are fantastic at combating depression. You must make sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you improve your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try to eat an egg and feel a lot better!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel at all times. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic source of protein.

Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to feel happier. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full also which can really help to improve your mood. It’s easy to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood sugar which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You were simply anticipating to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while at the same loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. And now you know it can help improve your mood as well!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these tips instead.
