Mung Daal (along with all kinds of potato concoctions), was a staple at the boarding schools that I went to in India. After years of grumbling about the food and this Daal in particular, it recently dawned on me that Mung Daal has now become a major part of my diet and I just love it! Mung Daal is quite kind to Chowder when he is not causing insane amounts of trouble and tend to go easy on him when he makes.

Information on How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Most of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we must stay away from them. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this might be true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that actually can raise your moods when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to learn, are great at fighting depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most crucial in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Eat an egg and cheer up!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a fantastic source of protein.

If you want to battle depression, you should eat some cold water fish. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you overcome depression.

Some grains are truly excellent for repelling bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. They can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling starved can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also calming the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you be a lot healthier. And now you know it can help you be happier as well!

So you see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you so you can feel better! Go with these tips instead!
