Information on How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

Many of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we should keep away from them. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be totally nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that really can improve your moods when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually terrific at fighting back depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for elevating your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Consume an egg and feel a lot happier!

Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to beat back depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly elevate your mood.

Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a terrible mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. They help you feel full also which can truly help to improve your mood. It’s not difficult to feel depressed when you feel hungry! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Green tea is actually good for your mood. You were just waiting to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This helps raise your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel a lot healthier. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods too!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
