Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood

A lot of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we have to avoid them. At times, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. Some foods honestly do boost your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, you might be surprised to discover, are terrific at fighting depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you improve your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Try eating a couple of eggs to cheer up!

Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to raise serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given moment. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to battle depression. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you battle your depression.

It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you feel better. They help you feel full too which can actually help to improve your mood. Feeling hungry can actually make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your sugar levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is wonderful for moods. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be packed full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you feel so much healthier. Now you know green tea can help you be happier as well!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
