Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood
A lot of us have been taught to believe that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to consume. There are several foods that, when you eat them, can boost your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try some of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, can be really great at fighting back depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that affect your mood. Eat an egg and feel happier!
Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that, nuts, particularly, are a fantastic protein food source.
Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to feel better. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.
It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you eat grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. They help you feel full too which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling hungry can be terrible! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is really great for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has found that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps improve your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not difficult to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier also!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these tips instead.
