Foods That Make Your Mood Better

Mostly, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and must be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that really can raise your moods when you eat them. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you fight depression. Just be sure that you do not throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try consuming some eggs to feel better!

Put together several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is possible because these foods have a bunch of magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that tells the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are great if you are wanting to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.

Some grains are really great for repelling bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you be in a happier state of mind. These grains fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling starved can be a real downer! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not difficult to digest. You digest these grains more quickly than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is excellent for moods. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while simultaneously calming the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be better. Now you are well aware that it helps you to raise your moods also!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a few of these tips instead.
