Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood
Many of us think that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we have to keep away from them. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be super healthy and good for you. There are some foods that basically can boost your moods when you consume them. When you feel a little down and need an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you battle depression. Just be sure that you don’t toss out the yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for lifting up your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–function better. Eat an egg and be happy!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all helpful for improving your mood. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical substance that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific source of protein.
If you would like to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all loaded with omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.
Some grains are truly excellent for driving away bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you have a happier mood. These foods can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can actually bring you down! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.
Your mood can actually be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you become healthier. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to lift your moods too!
As you can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you to feel better! Try several of these instead!
