Use Food to Improve Your Mood
Many of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must stay away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, may boost your mood. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out a few of these.
Eggs, you might be astonished to find out, are fantastic at combating depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try consuming a few eggs to cheer up!
Put together a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera are all great for helping to boost your mood. This is possible because these foods are high in magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of it in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.
If you would like to fight depression, try eating some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that improve the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you overcome your depression.
It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods also. Feeling famished can be a real downer! The reason these grains can improve your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were sure it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea has been found to be rich in an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also loosening up the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you are aware that it can help you be happier as well!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try a few of these instead!
