Discover How to Improve Your Mood with Food

Many of us think that comfort foods are bad for us and that we should keep away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is candy or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, could better your mood. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional pick-me-up, try some of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to find out, are great at combating depression. Just be sure that you don’t throw away the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks especially, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to raise your mood. This is because these vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try to eat an egg and feel better!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all fantastic for helping to raise your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which boosts your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, specifically, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you want to fight depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3s. DHA and omega-3s are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

It’s not hard to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all wonderful for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They can help you feel full for longer too, which is a mood improver. Feeling hungry can actually make you feel terrible! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not hard for your body to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were simply anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You knew green tea could help you become healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try some of these instead!
