Use Food to Boost Your Mood
Many of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must keep away from them. However, if your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to eat. There are some foods that, when you eat them, could improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Consume an egg and cheer up!
Build a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific source of protein.
Cold water fish are good if you want to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 and DHA. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can actually help you battle your depression.
Some grains are really great for driving away bad moods. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are great at helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. Feeling starved can truly bring you down! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s easy for your body to digest them. You digest them quicker than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while also relaxing the rest of your body. You probably already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods also!
So you see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
