Mostly, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are several foods that really can raise your moods when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, you might be surprised to learn, are wonderful at fighting depression. Just see to it that you do not toss the egg yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help in bettering the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that dictate your mood. Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etcetera are all wonderful for elevating your mood. This is because these nuts are high in magnesium, which helps to boost your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that directs your brain how you feel all the time. The more serotonin in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.
Cold water fish are good if you would like to feel better. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3s. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.
Some grains are truly excellent for fighting off bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually great for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full too which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling hungry can truly bring you down! These grains can help your mood elevate as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This will improve your brain’s focus while at the same calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you feel so much healthier. Now you are well aware that it helps you to lift your moods too!
So you see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try these suggestions instead!
