Try Using Food to Elevate Your Mood

Many of us believe that comfort foods are bad for us and that we need to keep away from them. Often, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very healthy and good for you. Some foods actually do boost your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, you might be astonished to learn, are great at combating depression. You need to make sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you elevate your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Try consuming some eggs to feel better!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the more pleasant you will feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a fantastic protein food source.

Cold water fish are good if you would like to feel happier. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and omega-3s are two things that actually help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.

Grains can be good for fighting a terrible mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full also which can actually help to make your mood better. Feeling hungry can be terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your sugar levels which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while at the same relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you be healthier. Now you know that green tea helps you to lift your moods as well!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
