Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood
Many of us have been trained to believe that comfort foods are bad and are to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is candy or another junk food, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nutritious and good for us to eat. A number of foods actually do raise your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you battle depression. You must see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolk in particular, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because they help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Consume an egg and jolly up!
Make several trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that dictates to the brain how to feel at any given moment. The more of this chemical in your brain, the happier you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a great protein source.
If you would like to beat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all chock-full of omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can greatly raise your mood.
Grains can be excellent for overcoming a bad mood. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods as well. Feeling famished can be awful! The reason these grains are so good for your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest them more quickly than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be mentioned in this article, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially stimulates brain waves. This helps improve your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you become better. Now you know that applies to your mood too!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you are wanting to help your moods get better. Try some of these tips instead.
