Information on How to Boost Your Mood with Food

Many of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really healthy and good for you. There are some foods that, when you eat them, can better your mood. If you seem to be a little bit down and you need an emotional pick me up, try several of these.

Eggs, you might be amazed to learn, are terrific at fighting depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you boost your mood. This is because they help improve the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that dictate your mood. Consume an egg and feel better!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that directs the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Not just that but nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein source.

If you would like to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: consuming tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.

Some grains are truly excellent for fighting off bad moods. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all excellent for helping you be in a happier state of mind. They fill you up better and that can help improve your moods too. Feeling famished can be a real downer! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You were simply expecting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also calming the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to be healthy when you consume green tea. And now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier too!

As you can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are terrible for you to feel better! Test out these hints instead!
