Learn How to Improve Your Mood with Food
Most of us have been taught to think that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. Often, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that, when you consume them, may improve your mood. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. You should be sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the egg yolks in particular, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–work better. Try eating an egg and be happy!
Make a trail mix out of seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to boost serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you will feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a terrific protein source.
Cold water fish are excellent if you wish to be in a better mood. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. These are two substances that promote the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.
Some grains are truly wonderful for driving away bad moods. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you feel better. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. Feeling famished can be awful! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy to digest. You digest them faster than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were simply anticipating to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can actually stimulate brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while simultaneously loosening up the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to be healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that green tea helps you to raise your moods as well!
As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
