Turn to Food to Improve Your Mood

In general, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this holds true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to eat them. Several foods honestly do boost your mood when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are in need of an emotional boost, try a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you fight depression. You should be sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the components of your brain that control your mood. Try eating a few eggs to jolly up!

Put together a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these foods are high in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you want to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. These are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you overcome your depression.

Some grains are really excellent for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really excellent for helping increase your happiness levels. They help you feel full as well which can really help to improve your mood. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel famished! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is fantastic for moods. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can actually induce brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you feel better. Now you are aware that green tea helps you to raise your moods also!

So you see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try these tips instead!
